I Am Able Spotlight: Wes Woodson
At the I Am Able Foundation, our mission has always been fueled by the belief that storytelling is the most powerful tool we have to increase the visibility and acceptance of neurodiversity. Sometimes, those stories begin in the most modern of ways: a simple connection on social media.
Our partnership with Wes Woodson didn't start in a boardroom; it started online. When our Executive Director, Bari Levin, first connected with Wes through social media, there was an instant, mutual respect for each other’s work. Both were dedicated to the same goal: changing the narrative around mental health and neurodiversity to empower the next generation.
As an author, dynamic public speaker, and mental health advocate, Wes has dedicated his life to helping young people believe three essential words: "YOU ARE ENOUGH." His authentic vulnerability and impactful storytelling are exactly why our partnership is so crucial in advancing the I Am Able mission.
Wes's journey is one of transforming personal struggle into universal strength. Drawing from his own experiences with anxiety, depression, and being neurodiverse, he has cultivated a platform that is all about authenticity. His book, I Have Anxiety (So What?), provides an unapologetic guide to owning your anxiety, challenging the shame often associated with mental health.
Traveling across the country, Wes has connected with tens of thousands of students, teachers, and adults, showing them that the parts of themselves they've been taught to hide are often their greatest strengths. He is a true master of connecting, not through perfection, but through his willingness to say, "Me too."
Aaron Wolf & Wes Woodson - We All Think Differently
After Wes shared his story as part of our "We All Think Differently" film series, Bari finally had the opportunity to meet him in person. The highlight of that meeting was a quiet, powerful moment: Bari sat with Wes as he watched his completed video for the very first time. Seeing his raw expressions and the genuine emotion on his face as he watched his own journey reflected back at him was a reminder of why we do this work. It wasn't just a video; it was a testament to his lived experience.
That meeting sparked a deep, passionate conversation about the future of mental health advocacy and how Wes’s voice could help shape the trajectory of the I Am Able Foundation. Wes shared his own neurodiversity journey about navigating his life with ADHD and his unique perspective it brings to his work. It became clear that Wes wasn't just a participant in a series. He was a vital part of our community.
We are incredibly honored to announce that Wes Woodson has officially joined the I Am Able Foundation as an Advisory Board Member. Join us in welcoming Wes to the board and stay tuned for the incredible things we will accomplish together.
